Kearton Country Hotel

The Problem
Kearton Country Hotel already had a hardwired fire alarm system covering the main communal areas, however following a visit from the Fire Service it was suggested that the hotel needed protection in the bedrooms in addition to the protection they already had.

Parameters
The proprietor did not have any plans to close the hotel for business and did not want the guests being disrupted during their stay.
The proprietor wanted a system to category L1 that was easy to manage.

Design
Following a visit to site to meet the client and a thorough radio survey there were 2 solutions offered to the proprietor, both based on a wirefree fire alarm system due to the fact that this would allow the hotel business to run as normal during the installation as set out by the client.

Option 1 - Upgrade the current system by adding additional detectors to meet L1 standards and then linking the new panel with the hardwired panel currently operating.

Option 2 - Complete installation of a wirefree fire alarm system. This would involve de-commissioning and removal of the hardwired system to be replaced along with additional detection on a wirefree scheme.

Solution
Option 2 was chosen by the customer for the following reasons:

Control of the system would be easier from one panel
  Uniformity of sound throughout
  One maintenance contract
The additional cost for a full system did not justify having 2 systems
   running parallel

The total number of units installed was 47 and the job completed within 2 days.
